Songpreneurs is honored to once again present our workshop at the annual Americana Music Conference in Nashville, TN on September 14, 2017 3:30PM-4:30PM.
International Intellectual Property (IP) Expert and career songwriter / music publisher, Amanda Colleen Williams powered through her proprietary copyright workshop, showing songwriter entrepreneurs how to understand the foundation of the music business so that they can make their own decisions about what is important for creating their unique business models.
“We talk a lot about the business,” Williams said, “but you know we’re only talking about the business to support our artistry. It’s all about supporting ourselves and our families while creating opportunities to share our art, and make a difference.”
In attendance were Ted Kalo, Washington D.C., Jeffrey Boxer, Los Angeles, California, and Melvin Gibbs, New York, NY based representatives of C3, Content Creators Coalition, a group who have consulted with Williams while patterning their policies.
Williams’ points were echoed in the C3 panel with Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn the following day, when Gibbs brought to light the connection between artists asking for songwriter and publisher credit, and the fact that under current systems, the United States does not pay a royalty to artists and record companies for the use of the sound recording copyright on terrestrial radio.
Attendees talking with Amanda after her presentations regularly comment that she gives, “the best, most understandable explanation of copyright they have ever heard.”
“We must steward our copyrights,” says Williams. “As creators, we are responsible for what we create. And we are responsible for stewarding the copyrights of our songs to fund the things we as creators think are important.”
