Happy birthday to Mr. Larry Weiss, songwriter of "Rhinestone Cowboy" made famous by Glen Campbell.
Larry is a great friend of the Songpreneurs community and has been a guest performer at many of our Songwriter Salon events and meetups in the past.
His story is one that resonates with all of us.
Larry wrote "Rhinestone Cowboy" as a struggling singer songwriter, and instead of pitching it around and waiting for it to get recorded, he released it to radio himself as the artist.
This proved to be a good move, because Glen Campbell heard Larry's version of the song on the radio in Los Angeles, and immediately called his team to track down the song so he could also record it.
So, on this day as we're celebrating the life and works of Larry Weiss, we can all learn a valuable lesson in how to make success happen as professional songwriter entrepreneurs.
If you see Larry today, wish him Happy Birthday and big congratulations on all his recent successes including the Bruce Springsteen cover version of "Rhinestone Cowboy."
